Materials: MarigoldMarigold flowers are one of the most vivid and easy to achieve natural dyes. Native to Central Amerika these flowers become an important part in many cultures all over the word from Aztec to India. 50 grams will dye 100 - 400 grams of fiber depending on the shade. Latin name - Calendula Officinalis.

Mordanting:
- Use alum mordant at 15% WOF for protein fibers. For cellulose mordant with tannin at 8% WOF and then alum at 15%, or alum acetate at 8%.
Dyeing:
- Add the flower powder to the dye pot, cover with water and gently simmer for 30-60 minutes to extract the dye. Strain the liquid, add fibers and simmer until the desired shade is achieved. With the addition of a little iron (1- 2% WOF) olive greens can be created and mixed with madder roots marigolds will produce vibrant orange shades.
